Mechanics of emancipation
In my opinion, animals and humans are and have always been deeply connected. Since I was little, I refused to eat the rabbits I used to pet in their cage at my grandparents’ house, and it was only natural that I became a vegetarian and now eat essentially vegan at home.
We hear so much about people who decide to stop or reduce their part in this industry. Accused of being too ‘high-minded’, hysterical or, at best, contemptuous, like people invited onto television programmes, a bit like those rappers, in France who appear in prime time and are so easily ridiculed because the programme makers have taken care to invite easy targets. After that, it’s quick to jump to conclusions and the mess doesn’t get any better.
I haven’t eaten meat in 30 years, and I’m young looking, full of energy. My doctor is always impressed by the tests I take from time to time, the same ones he gives to all his patients as a precaution, which aren’t always so balanced.
Although I treat everyone equally, I am, of course, primarily affected by the fate of my fellow creatures, just as a lioness will defend her cubs rather than those of another species when faced with danger. However, it seems clear to me that the endless waves of violence human perpetuate are linked to the fact that most people consider it normal to keep animals in cages and slaughter them without a second thought.
When I walk past a field with oxen in it, I make a wish that they will not suffer too much when their time comes, and it pains me to remain silent when people’s children feel so close to these sentient beings, only to end up with them on their plates without anyone making them realise the connection.
Morte Nature, this short project is for all earthlings who suffer from violence of any kind, and I also hope that the connection between love people have for their pets and compassion for the rest of the animal kingdom will spread so that weight of logic gains coherence, and the contemporary human equation, which will become increasingly complicated as water and grain are wasted to raise livestock, is gradually resolved as this is the only way for everyone to live in safety.
